After a cagey opening quarter, when it took a while to find a way past Glenn’s counter-attacking style of play, Ballyholland kicked on and in the end ran out easy winners of this Reserve Championship Semi Final.
Star of the first half was Barry McAteer who kicked 3 points during this time, and was generally the hub the of the best attacking play on show.
Second half subs Gareth Campbell, with his direct running, and Rory Keenan, with his passing range, each made a major contribution to Ballyholland pulling way, but the importance of the formidable shift put in by veterans Eugene Campbell, John and Colm Barry should not be underestimated either.
John and Eugene played those same positions (13 and 6) when Ballyholland first won this trophy in 1998, while Colm played corner back when it was regained in 2000.
So it’s a day out a county final for the lads, and we wish them the best of luck there. Their opponents on the day will be Clonduff, and based on the score lines of their recent games against Rostrevor and Kilcoo, it’s going to take a big performance to take the trophy back to Ballyholland for the first time since 2000.
